Commonly used ACSR Conductors in India

Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) is a type of high capacity ad high strength conductor. ACSR conductors are typically used in the overhead power line. High purity aluminum is used on the outer strands.

The reason why aluminum conductor is chosen because of its conductivity, low weight, as well as low cost. All the ACSR conductors used in the transmission and distribution line are given animal names and these are commonly used ACSR conductors.

Commonly, ACSR comprises of galvanized steel core of 1 wire or 7 wires or 19 wires and it is surrounded by concentric aluminum strands.

Types of ACSR Conductors:

ACSR Weasel Conductor: Weasel conductor is usually used as a bare overhead transmission conductor. The material used in the conductor is aluminum and steel. It is commonly used for the primary and secondary distribution system and as a messenger conductor. Weasel conductor is used for voltage level up to 11 kV and its size has a nominal Al cross-sectional area of 30 sqmm.

ACSR Rabbit Conductor: ACSR Rabbit conductor has a nominal Al cross-sectional area of 50 sqmm. It is used for HT overhead applications. It has 6 aluminum strands of 3.35 mm diameter and 1 steel strand of 3.35 mm in diameter. It has an inner core which is of stranded steel with a higher tensile strength than others. This increases the strength and supports the conductor’s weight. So it is possible for the conductor to resist wind, snow and other weather. Besides, the high strength can enable a longer span.

ACSR Dog Conductor: ACSR Dog conductor has a nominal aluminum cross-sectional area of 100 sqmm. It has high robustness and strength. Steel present in the inner core is higher in strength than aluminum, which allows for increased mechanical tension to be applied to the conductor. This type of conductor is suitable for extra-long spans and can resist any damage due to climatic changes.

ACSR Wolf Conductor: ACSR Wolf conductor has a nominal aluminum cross-sectional area of 150 sqmm. Wolf conductor has better connection and transmission properties when compared to ordinary Aluminum conductors. These conductors are used in High Tension overhead transmission of voltage up to 33 kV.

ACSR Panther Conductor: ACSR Panther conductor has a nominal aluminum cross-sectional area of 200 sqmm. The diameter of the aluminum wire is 30/3.00mm, and the stranding steel is 7/3.00mm. When compared with other type conductors, panther conductor has obvious advantages for its economical price, high tensions, and favorable weight. These conductors are used for transmission of voltage up to 33 kV.

ACSR Zebra Conductor: ACSR Zebra conductor has a nominal aluminum cross-sectional area of 420 sqmm. The zebra conductor has 54 aluminum strands and 7 steel strands of 3.18 diameters each. These conductors are used in High Tension overhead transmission for voltage range above 33 kV.

6 Differences between HT and LT Cables

An electric cable is a bunch of more than one wires bundled together to pass an electric current. They are the most important part of the whole power transmitting systems as they help to transmit the power from one point to another. The cable comes in different sizes, shapes, and voltage range.

The categorization of cables can be done as low voltage cables or high voltage cables. They are also known as high tension (HT) cables and low tension (LT) cable.

Further categorization of LT and HT Cables is done as follows:

Rating: LT cables have a rating from 660 V to 1100 V. Cables having a rating of above 3300 V (33kV) are termed as HT cables.

Armouring: Armouring refers to a protective covering for a cable. Armouring is present in both the cables either round or flat armouring, but some LT cables are unarmoured.

Insulation: Unlike other cables, LT and HT cables have a layer of insulation for protection of cable from any mechanical or external factors. LT cables have insulation of materials like polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or cross-linked polyethene (XLPE). Most of the HT cables comprises of XLPE insulation.

Conductors: Conductors used in LT and HT cables are Aluminium or Copper. Aluminium is cheaper in price as compared to Copper. The market price of Copper tends to fluctuate thus the pricing of cables changes with it.

No.of Cores: LT cables include cores from 1 core, 2 core and extend up to 61 cores (LT Control cables). HT cable comprises of stranded copper or aluminium conductor cores. They are 1 core or 3 core.

Application: LT and HT cables have various areas of applications. LT cables can be used in industries like power distribution, power stations, railways, etc. While HT cables are used in power transmission and distribution.

The Top 5 Advantages of Procurement Process Automation

A typical procurement process looks like chaos without any automation. Under the traditional procurement process, there are a lot of moving parts and require different individuals to play out their separate jobs in a consistent, coordinated way. However, without a reasonable work process set up, it declines into utter confusion.

By automating the process, the organization’s efforts are all centered around accomplishing productivity. The most significant benefits that are achieved from automating the procurement process are discussed below:

>> Simplifying the Process Flow: The primary noticeable impact of automation is the procurement process streamlining. Human intervention is limited where it isn't required and held for other tasks where it is essential. The automated procurement process at that point starts to work in harmony.

>> Improved Savings: Upon the implementation of the automated process in the organization, you will find savings in the time, cost, and work efforts. The enhanced process cycle will enable your groups to take on more duties and responsibilities.

>> Improved Visibility: Greater visibility reduces errors during the process and maximizes the overall work efficiency. Moreover, comprehensive analytics enables you to dig into regions where change or improvement is required to advance procedures.

>> Cost Reduction: With the automated procurement process, there is a reduction in manual paperwork and efforts. This also allows managers to guarantee whether the procurement approvals are extremely fundamental or not.

>> Improvement in Compliance: Organizations can see improvement in compliance by implementing the automation to the procurement process.

>> Ease in Tracking: Automating the procurement process provides a smooth flow of tracking the purchase orders, payments, invoices, etc. This helps in maximum control over increasing operational efficiency.

5 Limitations of Traditional Procurement Process

Organizations normally purchase items from numerous vendors. Procurement experts handle the details of getting these materials purchases at ideal costs. Setting up reliable procurement strategies and techniques empowers a private company to adjust its purchasing system to its long term objectives and goals.

Procurement managers/ supervisors identify the requirement of what to buy, total buy orders, negotiate delivery times, get items and administrations from providers, survey and acknowledge things and endorse supplier payments.

Managing procurement as an integrated function can draw a positive as well as a negative effect on a business. Procurement can yield different advantages whenever utilized successfully with a decent procedure. But poor procurement processes can lead to cost organizations a billion dollars.

Some limitations of traditional procurement are:

High Costs: There's no competitive offering, which involves sellers contending to offer the products at the most minimal cost to benefit the purchaser. The firm additionally may acquire high search costs when looking for data about the most solid and least expensive suppliers.

Quality Standards: Sourcing from a single most vendor can compromise on the quality standards of the product that is procured. This may increase wastage and in general operational activity costs, leading to a decrease in the organization’s profitability, competitive advantage, and customer loyalty.

Increased Complexity: Generally, the procurement process becomes more complex due to shortage, delays, and supply chain disruption.

Limited Stock Supply: Expecting products from only a single seller can is a risk for an operating business. The supplier organization may neglect to convey the correct amount at the stipulated time, prompting to stock-outs. These stock-outs may prompt loss of sales, lower benefits, and loss of customer goodwill as well as loyalty.

Time Consuming: The most concerning problem faced in the traditional procurement process is that it consumes a lot of time for both the vendors and the buyers. This ultimately affects the productivity of the organization.

Unlike virtual reality (VR), augmented reality is an overlay of advanced digital content in this present reality condition. Consumers are tending more towards technology and make their purchase decisions on the go.

The impact of augmented reality on material procurement is as follows:

Improved Customer Experience: AR and VR technology are enhancing and improving the customer/buyer experience. This utilization of augmented reality is a significant leap forward that is focused on the business and commercial industry.

Improved Communication within Departments: With augmented reality, the communication among Procurement, Operations, and Finance to examine the worth and cost drivers of the business could be improved.

Replace Physical Human Interactions: The augmented reality replaces the need for basic human interactions whether it is a client visit or any business meeting. This helps in saving time of the organization as well as their cost.

Enhance the Procure-to-Pay process: A purchase decision can be made quickly dependent on the survey of the product or finding out about the firm’s services as clients/ buyers can encounter a similar demo. This empowers buyers to check the process worth by means of a digital product catalog.

Digitalizing Supplier Relationship Management: Negotiating with the vendors, bidding in an auction now could be made much more easier after digitalizing.

To make the procurement process proficient and stand ahead of the competitors, these new innovations can possibly reform the manner in which organizations lead certain everyday functions.

Challenges of Traditional Procurement Process

Procurement is tied up with acquiring products and enterprises and the various procurement procedures and tasks connected to this. Despite the many issues and challenges that are mainly associated with traditional procurement, numerous organizations go with the process.

A typical traditional procurement process is carried out with manual work that includes small as well as the repetitive work. These tasks can be anything from getting approvals, discussing bids, making negotiations, etc. Due to all this, it is a very challenging process.

In addition to this, the traditional procurement process is also time-consuming as well as expensive. This is because there are fewer people to manage the given processes. Dealing with the approvals, bills, and other invoices on paper are both inefficient and expensive and obviously inclined to mistakes and loss of administrative work.

Naturally, procurement is a troublesome procedure to control. Therefore, this makes visibility progressively obscured, prompting a greater loss of control and is normally expanded by miscommunication between purchaser organizations and the numerous providers included.

The key element to beat these difficulties is automating an eProcurement stage. Connecting purchasers and dealers into one single stage. In addition, giving a system to clients to make purchases.  An eProcurement stage improves visibility that it unites all clients, procurement experts, and providers into one stage.

Having a streamlined procurement process, sourcing and invoicing in a cloud-based stage prompts to controlled visibility over every transaction either locally or globally.
